Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging services including xrays and ultrasound are often used to assist in making a diagnosis and prognosis.

Common reasons for diagnostic imaging:

  • Assess dental health, evaluate fractured or infected teeth
  • Assess internal organs such as liver, stomach, intestines and bladder
  • Assess the degree of trauma or determine the location of broken bones
  • Locate foreign bodies that a pet might have swallowed.
  • Help identify or assess the status of heart disease
  • Evaluate the status of a pet's pregnancy

Digital X-rays - Radiographs (X-rays) are one of the most common tests used to evaluate your pet. Digital X-rays are fast, accurate and display great contrast and detail. Because of their accuracy, we are able to take fewer images resulting in decreased pet stress. Digital X-rays also subject your pet to less radiation than traditional X-rays, which allows your pet to avoid unnecessary exposure.

Ultrasound - Ultrasounds are another form of 3D imaging. This diagnostic tool gives much more detailed information about the architecture of internal organs and is used to evaluate tumors /cancer, heart disease, foreign bodies, bladder stones and more. Ultrasound is very gentle and can usually be performed without any sedation, gently holding the patient on his side or back as they are scanned.

Some pets with a medical condition may feel increased anxiety, stress, or discomfort. Because of this stress, they may be uncooperative during these procedures. In these situations, our staff patiently tries to make your pet feel comfortable and guide them to cooperate. If a pet is very painful or remains unwilling, our doctor may recommend a mild sedative for your pet to ease their stress.
